Biography of the Avos Olam

The Avos Olam, Rav Binyamin haKohen, was born in Sivan 5411 (1651) in Alexandria. He was a mohel and he was a talmid of the Ramaz. He was also the Rebbi muvhak of the Zera Shimshon and the Shomer Emunim. His son's in law were the Ramchal's rebbi, Rav Yeshaya Bassan, and Rav Menashe Padova, Rov of Modina. The Avos Olam was niftar in 5490 (1730) in the city of Ragusa, Italy. The Avos Olam authored the Sefer Haminhagim, Eis Hazamir, Eilon Bachos, Givul Binyamin, Hagaos Al Sefer Otzros Chaim, Teshsuvos Harabach, Biur Al Perek Shirah, Hagaos Al Sefer Korban Aharon-Toras Kohanim, as well as the Avos Olam on Pirkei Avos. Though the Avos Olam is known to have been a mekubal, his Peirush on Pirkei Avos rarely quotes kabbilistic sources, and it focuses on diyyukim and connecting the dots through lomdus, along implementing his vast knowledge of Tanach,  Gemara, and Medrash.

R' Zalman Cohen uses the Avos Olam to supplement his chiddushim and understandings of Pirkei Avos. If you find that what R' Zalman says is also found in the Avos Olam and R' Zalman did not quote it, it is because he was zoche to be mechavein to this awesome peirush, as they both enjoy the similar style of making diyyukim.

The Pirkei Avos Shiurim are posted l'uliei nishmas Rav Binyomin ben Eliezer haKohen, the author of the Avos Olam, and as a zchus for my uncle, Yehoshua Asher ben Zalman haKohen.

The Parsha Shiurim are posted as a zchus for a shidduch for Nechama Yael bas Yocheved Devorah, and for long life and health to Rav Mordechai Rashi ben Zalman haKohen.
